Michael Longley is a leading figure in contemporary Irish poetry. His poems draw deeply on the Troubles in Northern Ireland as well as his father’s experience as a boy soldier in the First World War, often transposing them into the realms of Greek and Roman mythology. He has won leading poetry prizes including the T. S. Eliot prize and the Whitbread Poetry Award. Wed 19 Oct. 7.30pm. £10. Booking essential. At the London Buddhist Arts Centre (Eastbourne House Arts, Bullards Place, London, E2 0PT).
