The London Buddhist Centre (LBC) teaches meditation and Buddhism in a way that is relevant to contemporary western life. It is a non-proselytising public centre, open to all, with no expectation of Buddhist interest/ involvement.
History
The LBC opened in 1978 in what was a disused fire station in London’s east end. Since its opening, a thriving Buddhist community has grown up around the LBC, which local estate agents have dubbed the ‘Buddhist Village’. This includes a vegetarian restaurant, a gift shop, a natural health centre, a charity shop and residential communities. T he LBC is one of the largest urban Buddhist Centres in the West, and perhaps the best-established Centre run by the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO).
