World Wide Wesak

Wesak is celebration of the most significant event in Buddhism: the day the Buddha attained supreme Enlightenment. Over thirty years ago to celebrate of the first Wesak festival at the LBC some small plaster Buddhas were made. We are giving these Buddhas away and inviting people to share photographs of them wherever in the world they travel to. After sharing your photograph you might like to invite others to do the same by giving the Buddha to a friend or leaving it where you photographed it for someone else to discover.

How to take part if you have been given or have found a Buddha

Place the Buddha somewhere in the world and photograph it. Photos for World Wide Wesak are being shared on Flickr, a free photo sharing site owned by Yahoo. You can share your photos by following these steps:

  1. Sign up for a free account at www.flickr.com or login using an existing Yahoo account if you have one.
  2. Visit and join the World Wide Wesak group at www.flickr.com/groups/worldwidewesak.
  3. Upload a photo of the Buddha to your Flickr account.
  4. On the Flickr page of the photo you have uploaded click the "Add to your map" link (under "Additional Information" to the right of the photo) and find the location where you took the photograph.
  5. On the Flickr page of the photo you have uploaded click the "Send to Group" button between the photo title and the photo, choose the “World Wide Wesak” group and you're done!

Or if you do not want to join Flickr:
