On the Urban Retreat you carry on living your normal day-to-day life whilst finding ways to intensify your practice of meditation and Buddhism. We will support you with two day-long retreats, morning meditations, special classes, and a Buddhist Festival.

The retreat is suitable for all levels of experience including complete newcomers except the Sunday Sessin on Sun 12.




Sat 11: Day Retreat 10am- 5pm.

On this day retreat we will set our aims for the Urban Retreat, find a 'retreat buddy', and dedicate ourselves to a week of intensified practice. Coming on this day retreat will really help you prepare to intensify your practice for the week ahead.
Please bring vegetarian lunch to share.

Sun 12: Sunday Sessin - Mediation on the hour throughout the day 10am - 4pm .

Drop in for a single sit or come and go on the hour, as many sessions as you please! Entry and exit every hour on the hour. First entry 10am, last entry 4pm.
Please note - no teaching, no lunch, no ritual, notalking, just meditation. This day is not suitable for beginners. This day is for those who have experience of meditation only. There will be no tuition.


Urban Retreat Classes Mon- Fri. 7.15- 9.45pm.

There will be a special class every weeknight during the Urban Retreat including meditation instruction for newcomers, talks and going-deeper meditation workshops. These classes are open to anyone and free of charge. We recommend you attend as many as possible.

Mon 13: Introduction to meditation, led meditation, and talk by Dhammadinna - Padmasambhava: Spirit of Integration. The first goal of spiritual life is to become an integrated human being.

Tues 14: Introduction to meditation, led meditation, and a symposium of four personal talks - Converting Demons! Buddhism challenges us to take a long look at ourselves and transform every aspect of our behaviour.

Wed 15: Introduction to meditation, led meditation, and Living the Buddhist Life: a Conversation - Subhadramati and Maitreyabandhu talk about 25 years living the Buddhist life.

Thurs 16: Introduction to meditation, led meditation, and a symposium of talks - The Dakini of Friendship. Three pairs of friends talk about how their friendship with each other inspires their spiritual life.

Fri 17: Introduction to meditation, led meditation, and a special
Padmasambhava ritual - Asking for a Teaching. Led by Maitreyabandhu.

Sat 18: Day Retreat 10am- 5pm.

On this day retreat we will explore what we have learnt about transforming our lives so that we become happier and more alive. How can we deepen our practice?

Sun 19: Padmasambhava Day
10am-10pm.

Padmasambhava was reputed to transform the gods and demons of Tibet - facing them, and then converting them into guardians of the Dharma.

10am: Ritual Meditation Cycle Doors close for the morning from 10.30am- 1pm
1.30pm: Children's Storytelling Ritual
2.30pm: Ritual Meditation Cycle Doors close until 5.30pm.
7.30pm: In the Cremation Ground - symposium of personal talks on the Crucial Crucial Situation followed by puja (ritual).

Please bring vegetarian lunch to share. For Supper we'll provide jacket potatoes - you bring fillings, salad and pudding!



Morning meditations
Mon-Fri. 7- 8am

We will be opening the LBC for people attending the Urban Retreat at 6.40am each weekday morning for the duration of the retreat. A light breakfast will be available after the meditation at 8am.
Please note: doors will close at 7am - you will not be admitted after that time.
